Our Student Oboe Reed is the easy-blowing, durable starter reed designed for beginners through to Grade 2. The medium-soft strength helps young players build a free, open embouchure without the fight of a heavier reed, and the thicker tip makes it forgiving of the bumps and knocks every student reed inevitably gets.

Easy to play from the first breath

This is the reed we recommend when someone has just started lessons or is preparing for their first few graded exams. It plays freely from the moment you put it together, so practice time goes into technique and tone rather than wrestling with a stiff reed. That matters more than people think when you're building the embouchure habits that carry through the rest of your playing.

Wired and tip-thickened for student reality

The wired construction (a fine wire fitted partway down the cane) lets you, or your teacher, fine-tune the reed's opening over time as your control develops. And because the tip is built a touch thicker than a typical reed, it survives the case-knocks, dropped pencils, and over-eager mouth-cleaning that take out so many student reeds in their first month.
